Clear - Capable - Consistent

Meet Bob Blackstock

My extensive work with a broad array of companies that produce software, hardware, and service products across the world ensures a practical hands-on approach that values hard work.

As a battle-hardened engineer, my focus is on achieving collaborative success. As a chief technology officer, patent holder, and business advisor with significant proven performance I bring both breadth and depth to an office that is vital to Nevada’s growth and success.

I am an unabashed member of the Democratic Party who will work across the aisle toward community solutions that benefit all of us — not a specific few.

I am about creating pathways to success that underscore transparency and collaborative effort among the many (15) regional development authorities in Nevada.  In Northern Nevada I have had the pleasure of attending several EDAWN events.  I look forward to further opportunities to work with NNDA and LVGEA as well as the many rural agencies that guide us forward.

Delivering success is synonymous with the timely delivery of financial reporting that is clear, unambiguous, and focused on a pathway from the present to a successful future.

Why I Am Running

Amid all of our challenges today, one might overlook the importance of how we govern our finances in Nevada.

I am running for the office of Nevada State controller precisely because we need good government and accurate oversight of the state budget.

In an environment where state revenue for all state services is shrinking while costs for everyone (including state government) are rising precipitously, we need a steady and experienced hand.

My experience in business and state agencies that demand timely reporting demonstrates performance and accountability.

The state’s 2023 annual financial report (https://www.controller.nv.gov/siteassets/content/financialrpts/acfr/annual-comprehensive-financial-report.pdf) was issued 777 days after the close of that fiscal year end, making it the all-time, state record for the latest-issued report. The 2024 annual report still hasn’t been issued, so it’s been at least 666 days after the close of that fiscal. The impact on our ability to handle debt and attract investment is severely affected. This means that scarce tax dollars are spent paying higher interest rates and not paying contractors in a timely manner.

Nevada needs better fiscal management. I need your vote. Please read on about how we can do this together—this year.

My Priorities as your next State Controller

  1. Deliver our financial reports on time.  Our current office holder is almost 2 years behind. This conveys a lack of competency and accountability.  That behavior then filters through all of our relationships within the state and damages our relationships federally and internationally.

  2. Provide consistency and timeliness in all our interactions.  No improved system compensates for poor performance.

  3. Imbuing transparency means that ordinary Nevadans can see what we do and how we do it.  It assures a greater environment of trust and benefits from public oversight.

  4. Nevada needs to prepare for the future by attracting and cultivating new business.  Greater state competency is a growth agency—not a low wage attractant.
